For HAP accredited psychiatric facilities:
Because it is required! As announced by The Joint Commission on July 21, 2010 free-standing psychiatric hospitals are required to report the HBIPS core measure set. For general hospitals with psychiatric units, HBIPS is a set of core measures that is timely and relevant.

For other psychiatric facilities interested in quality improvement and data driven decisions:
The HBIPS core measure set and over 20 non-core measures are available for participation, all of which contribute to the fulfillment of your quality improvement initiatives.
