Measure Expansion:
Given the impending requirement for psychiatric hospitals to adopt the HBIPS core measure set, any non-core measure development will be limited. The areas of greatest interest in a survey of participating facilities were falls, treatment variances due to medication errors, converting the inpatient consumer survey into modules, and adding additional stratifications for acute versus long term stay clients.

Smoking Practices in State Psychiatric Hospitals:
NRI conducted a survey in Spring 2008 as a follow-up to the surveya conducted in 2006 and 2005. Results from the first two surveys are available as NRI reports. Results from the 2008 survey will be available late January 2009. A longitudinal analysis of changes from 2006-2008 is underway; results are expected Spring 2009
